investing in ro unit

I see home depot has a ro filter unit there for 149$ is that going to do the same thing as the one in my lfs or us there a special kind for aquariums

Those wont do it. They usually don't include a DI stage which is essential. You can buy a 4 stage that includes DI for about that price at BRS.

Try purewaterclub.com you can probably get a 5 or 6 stage ro/di for that price.

Check out spectrapure as well.

They sell a refurbished unit for 125 about, normally 190. I just received mine and the thing is brand new. Best value for ro/di units as far as I'm concerned.

The specturepure 90 looks really nice for 125 I don't think I can beat that
