Is it alright to change what type of salt is used??

I'm looking at buying a different brand of salt. Is it ok to just change brands?

That will be fine. If you have an established tank you might want to check some of your water peramiters for the first few times as different salt brands will add different amounts of the trace elements to the tank.

I would start by doing smal water changes of 10% every week for a a month or so before moving onto larger water changes.
