is it safe

to put sea shells that I brought home from my vaca in my saltwater tank

It should be but make sure to boil them first

It should be fine if you sterilize or boil it. The only issue might be if the shell degraded, and put more calcium in the water. In a salt are tank I doubt this would be a big issue unless it a whole lot of shells....
