so I got a red japanese pistol shrimp about 2 weeks ago- he promptly dug a cave under some live rock and now shares it full time with my yasha gobi and whenever my firefish gets scared he darts in there also- both fish seem to also spend the night in the cave- is it unusual for a pistol shrimp to pair with 2 gobies at once ?

that's normal and fine. i have my watchman goby with the red japanese pistol shrimp AND 2 firefish in the same cave/hole and no problem.
