I just got 2 x jbj 1600 powerheads with a wavemaker for my 55 gallon...whalers should I place them? Right now I got them about 3/4ths the way up both in the middle of glass opposite sides. I have a mixed reef so any suggestions? Also what pulse should I put them on? Below is a pic of my tank

I don't know what the surface of your tank looks like, but Ive got mine fairly close to the surface and angled up to help with air exchange. I don't how much force yours are generating though.

I have a hob filter and skimmer on surface looks like this. Also they are 1600gph each and before this the powerheads I've had for two yrs was a nano 425 and 2x aqueon 500s

You got anything holding those lights besides 2x4's? How's your PH? More gas exchange is better, I keep my fans far enough from the top that if I loose some water they don't touch the surface and close enough to create good agitation. Plus I've got way overkill with a 300 gph HOB, my wave makers are 240 gph but they alternate day and night so never on at the same time.

They're 2 x8s and yea the lights are mounted on the sides by the them but other then that no (I know I know dangerous but worked for about a year now...in process of canopy been in the works for awhile now but hopefully should be done by may...also last time I checked last week was 8.1

the circulation is for your corals and gas exchange mainly. so if you're happy with ph and the corals are happy, then sounds like you're all good. Just keep an eye on things, experiment move it up a little see what happens, move it down a little watch it for a day, test your PH at same times on the following days to see how it affects your gas exchange. Sounds like all is well though.
