I live close to the puget sound in washington and I was wondering if I could get some rock from there, the puget sound is connected to the pacific ocean, so I would see why not? But if I cant then it would be fine to just buy lr from the lfs.

Find out what your local laws are about collecting from the ocean. I suspect its aganst the law.

I would guess it is illegal without a license/permit.

Only if it is a cold water tank, the tropical temps will be too stressful on any life on the rock.
