lava rock

I have found a really great piece of black lave rack that I would like to put in my aquarium, has this ever been done, should I set up a test tank to see what affect it would have on fish?

Don't think that would be a good idea....Lava is molten metals....Iron, magnisium, lead....

Never put a rock from the surface of the earth in your tank unless, it's limestone..and only certin kinds of that is alright.

Yup, too many metals, would be a nightmare for your stock, especially inverts.
Don't do it.

Why do fish shops sell Lava Rock when it is so unsuitable for aquarium use? I know all of my LFS sell it.... :?
