I purchased a lawnmower blenny last week, and now am wondering if I may actually have a scooter blenny (dragonet?) instead.

If it is a scooter then I will likely return it to the LFS since I am not sure if I have a sufficient supply of pods to keep him alive.

Are there any identifying marks I can look for? I have seen him 'mouth' the rock and glass periodically as though he were looking for something to eat.

Thanks in advance.

<90 gal. 15x turnover. Running just over 2 months. 5 blue/green chromis, 1 yellow tang, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 lawnmower blenny. 150lbs LR in tank, 25lbs in sump. ES5-3 skimmer, 380W VHO>

How big is your blenny? The lawnmower blenny gets bigger and is bigger bodied. They also have a wide mouth compared to the scooter. Here are some links to pics of both for you to compare with your fish. HTH

The mouthing your referring to sounds like a lawnmower. The scooter "scoots" along the rock and sand bed looking for pods and the like.
