Does anyone know any reason why you could not use a standard metal halide fixture and then get a reef bulb for it. I've seen several on ebay that are 70w and 100w with built in ballast that are meant for work bays. Do any of you know about this possibility.

Just need to be sure that the ballast for these commercial MH units can fire up the marine bulbs. Some of them are pulse start so you may need an electronic ballast to fire them up. Other than that, as long as the wattage is the same, it should work. Let me know if you decide to pursue this how it works out.
