lighting distance

hi all just got my lights
i dont have a canopy yet but was wondering how far away from the tank top should they be (floresents)
its nothing fancy just a shop light suspended from the ceiling by chains
but when i make the canopy i need to know how far up to mount them.

they are 3 inches from the top glass

IMO, lower the better for CFL but becareful, it might still produce some heat and if it doesnt have a splash shield, use one.
