I am replacing my two VHO bulbs and do not have a reflector on my hood. I keep a FO tank, but am thinking about converting. I made the entire hood of white formica a long time ago. I searched the web for a new reflector, which go for around $40 (aluminum). I know that is not a lot, but seems hi for a sheet of metal.

My question is, the local machine shop has stainless steel that is really reflective. He will cut and bend it for me for $10. Do you think its needed and will the stainless steel hurt my tank?

You would be better off with a polished aluminum as it should not rust when exposed to a SW environment. If you get salt creep or condensation on the stainless it will oxidize. The aluminum is also a much lighter material.

Cheers
Steve
