will a Volitan Lionfish small size which grows up to 2.5 inches be fine in a 30 gallon tank? if it needs to be by itself thats fine

Erm, Volitans attain about 12" and need to be in a 100g+ tank. They can be reef safe except for shrimp and crabs.

Technically, 30g is too small for even a dwarf lionfish. Sorry, but I would look at other fish options.

how would a fish that doesnt grow to even be five inches be to big for that tank? general rule for saltwater is inch for five gallons which means i could get six inchs not that im going to but a 2-4 inch fish?

+1 for fishboy. Btw, inches per gallon is very outdated now and doesn't have a relationship with the mass or diet of the fish.

Here is a pic of my lionfish, had him for about 3years now. IN a bigger tank, but has not grown much since this pic. Messy eaters but fun to watch.
