Live sand & base rock

If I get live sand will it seed with base rock producing live rock?

Yes, eventually but most of the pre-packaged 'live' sand isnt really very biologically active. Unless you are getting sand fresh from someone else's tank, your best bet is to just add basic dry sand to your base rock, and seed it all with a piece or two of good live rock from an established tank or from the LFS.

It is a good start, but it is still vital to get some high quality rock in there, even just a piece or two. This will introduce more diversity to the tnak and give it a great start.

As stated 'live sand' really isn't. At best it is wet sand with something equivalent to a bottled bacterial supplement. (Unless this is actaul live sand from an established tank.)

I agree with the above. Dont worry about live sand just get dry aragonite sand and rinse it really good. The sand will become live over time. Spend the extra money saved by getting some LR or more base rock.

I bought 20 pounds of black to go with what I have. Don't know how much I'm going to use yet....Going for the "splash of black" type thing.
