Ok, so I'm setting up my new FO SW tank. This time I'm using sand from Home Depot (i'll post the location in the sticky).

The question I have is, do I have to seed it with some live sand, or can I just get away with just the sand as I have with the crushed coral substrate in my other tanks?

The reason I ask is even the small bags of live sand are very expensive for what they are, and the tank will eventually get live rock, but probably not right away.

You could get away with not using it. But, if you know any other sw people in your area, maybe you could get a cup of their sand to seed yours. Your lfs may be able to give you some as well.

Hey Fluff wouldn't that be bad ... what if the person you got sand from was battling an ICH outbreak or something?

What if I took a cup or 2 of crushed coral from one of my established tanks? Wouldn't that do the same thing?

Yeah, you'd want to get it from someone trustworth Jermz.

You could do that. The cc will help seed the sand as well.
