low water filter

I have a 72 gallon tank my water filter always has the water under level I put water and it throws it back to the tank it never stays on the water level I had my tank set so I dont know what pump it has . what is happing

What type of setup is it? I assume a drilled saltwater tank..... Adjust the stand pipe for correct tank level (raise the return/stand pipe to raise the tank level). And make sure your return pipe fits snug in the drilled hole (make sure it has not come out of the hole)

How long for the water level to drop (is it just normal evaporation over the course of a few days?)
