Lowering PH Levels

I am in the fish add mode and have had my 10 gal QT set up for about 6 weeks. It has a AquaClear Mini (I believe that's correct), no substrate, 2 PVC fittings, and a heater. I am having difficulty keeping the PH down. I did not seed the filter because the original reason it was established was I had ammonia spikes in the main tank after adding LR. I do water changes regularly to keep the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates down, but the PH doesn't seem to drop. Should I do more frequent, larger water changes or use some additive?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

What is the pH in the tank now? Are you using any additives at all or just freshly mixed SW?

The PH seems to run between 8.4 and 8.8. I am not using any additives except for the dechlorinator.

Thanks,

Jeff
