Lowering phosphate levels

What's the best way to lower the phosphate levels in my tank? Besides water changes. I have a red slime problem.

No. I get both my salt and r/o from my local saltwater store.
 
Silly question, but have you tested your lfs water? i was using a store that had phosphates already in their RO.

Didn't think about that. I will test my R/O water. Thanks.
 
If it's not that, maybe the kind of food and frequency of feeding. Froaen food cubes have phosphtes in them, so its usually best to melt themin ro water then strain it into clean ro water and feed. extra step but keeps the nasties out. lol
