macro algea, seahorses

I want to put macro algea in my seahorse tank...not in a refugium. Can I do this? can I hold it down with some rock? Is it a good idea

Yes, yes and yes.
I was at the Long Beach Aquarium last summer on the behind scenes tour of their seahorse facility. They raise a lot of them for other public aquariums. Many of the tanks had macro algae and the Seahorses seemed to like to hang around in it.

Ohhh... I would love to see a tank decked out with blue ochtode, dragons breath, and red kelp.... and sea horses would just make it that much better.

I think seahorse aquariums should all have live macro! It provides a softer hitching surface than plastic, improves water quality, and provides additional surface and food for pods, so the horses can snack in between feedings. This is especially important because they do not have stomachs. They swallow directly into the intestines, so they cannot store food.
