Macro in a display as a method of nutrient export isn't an option if you have algae eating fish. Especially if you have tangs. They will eat it faster than it can grow. And seeing as how this is a 110 gallon tank I'm sure a tang or two are a likely possibility. I'm not sure if there are any macros that tangs and other algae eaters won't touch.

Yes, there are plenty of plants tangs won't eat. I think the only caulerpa they will eat is bubble. You can use feather or razor in the DT. These have root-like appendages that will anchor them to rock. The thing is, we fear Bryopsis/hair algae growth, which is a macroalgae, and yet we are talking about other macroalgae in the DT being an option.
I guess the question is, what algae do you consider aesthetically pleasing?
