Maxijet Powerhead

I was wondering if I can use a maxijet powerhead with a sponge prefilter on it for a QT tank. I would place the sponge filter in the sump of my display for a couple of days to get some bacteria going the place it on the powerhead. Will this work?

Sounds like a plan. I'd give it more like a week though.

For an aside about the remora skimmer.

If i buy the remora with the maxi jet, can i consider this powerhead to be one of the two i need for a 55g? Im not sure if this powerhead w/skimmer is used for another puropose.

hope that makes sense.

tia,
dan

I would say no. Skimmers usually don't count for gph from what I understand. You may want to start a new topic though.

Yes, at least a week for the bacteria to accumulate on the sponge.

No, I was told I cannot count my skimmer.

the reason being is that you won't get a lot of force from your return. That force is need to really move the water around your tank.

you need to buy 2 Powerheads in addition to your skimmer.
