Doing a picture post frenzy tonight, and thought I'd update this post too. I noticed some of the old pictures from my gallery here aren't showing anymore. Hmmm... glitch when we switched forum software? So... I'll relink the earliest picture to make sense of things...
Here was the picture from the very first post, 18 months ago...
And here is the coral tonight...
Guess the answer to the original question of whether or not the coral will span the gap is "yes... and then some." I should've framed the pictures the same to give it the same scale. The right edge of the coral in the latest picture is the same location as the very right edge of the first picture I linked. That little area where the crabs are in the first picture is completely covered now by the coral.
