MH too much?

Is dual 400 watt MH's with 20k bulbs too much for a 55 gallon tank? Or should I go to the 250 watt

I would do the 250's unless it is a dedicated SPS and clam tank.

250's would be a much better choice, the 400's are a better choice for a deep tank, not to mention the added heat.

2 x 400w over 55G = 85 degree tank temp on a cool day imho..
