I've got 11 small hermit crabs (a mixture of blue and red legged).

Is it a bad idea to put a much larger red-legged hermit crab in there? Will he bother the smaller ones or cause any other damage in my tank?

IMO, the larger one has no use for the smaller one's shells and will not bother them. Still, you may wanna consider some empty medium shells for the smaller ones to move into as they grow.

Cool - anyone else any views? :)
When Hermits run out of food they will eat other Hermits. Start with a small amount and add if you see its necessary. I only like the really tiny ones. I have one that is walking all through my Polyps and its driving me and the Polyps crazy.

I would advise against mixing. The larger ones will just yank them out of the shells when they get hungry. Probably best left to bigger tanks.
