Haha I don't have any money either. I know there are ways of DIY'ing float switches but I think it would atleast look better if it was one of the mini 12VDC ones.

Update:

Just finished the wood on the back. Now I'm gonna re-set everything up. Joy!

(Edit: Change of plans. I just read the sticker on the tank (barcode lol) and it says it comes with a light! The guy at petsmart lied! I'm going to go back tomorrow and see if I can get the light. I mean I paid for it, I should get it!)

lol, You got gypped by petsmart....... They are usually pretty goo about things like this. I bought an elclipse system 3 there in September 2008 and the filter cracked. They replaced the whole kit with no questions. As long as you have the reciept you will be fine.

you DO have the reciept, dont you? you might also want to take a picture of the barcode if possible just in case they try to say it doesnt come with a light. ive gotten ripped off by my pet store too. except the person that tricked me was fired when i went and talked to the manager about it. i didnt want the guy to get fired though...but oh well, there is nothing i can do about it now.

xD I have the reciept. It just makes me so mad that I saw the tank they sold before mine had a light and mine didn't, and I ask the guy (who was an adult, not a teenager, not that that means anything xP) and he said "no it doesn't come with a light. So I'm like for that price why complain. But I didn't notice the sticker at that time! It SAYS it right on there!!!

Oh well. I'll go back tomorow and see what happens. I'm gonna bring the tank incase they ask, so no filling tonight =(. I plan to build a gurgle buster for the overflow though. I can't take the noise!

Yet another update: I woke up and my dad told me he actually won money at the casino. (lol that's probably all he's ever gonna win there xD) So hes in a good mood. I'll ask about the skimmer again today and see what happens.

Good Idea with the backing on the stand! If you didn't get the glass top when you bought the tank, make sure you get that too.

LOL I knew someone would notice that! And guess who cut it originally? The guy at HD with his fancy power saw. It's supposed to cut in a straight line and it was crooked! I don't have any power saws so I had to improvize.. lol

But it's on the back and it's not nearly as bad as it looks. And at this point aslong as it keeps the catfish out everything is great!

Sorry dude, it was just way to obvious not to say somethin. I guess if it keeps the catfish out it's doing its job. The guy that cut your wood was probably from the plumbing or blinds department. I watch them like hawk when I need for them to cut stuff, unfortunately it has been more frequently with 4 x 8's because I got rid of my truck and can't fit it in my Honda unless it's ripped in half.
With no saw how did you improvise?

XD I know. I'm pretty sure he was from the garden center because he had to ask two people for the code to turn on the saw, then he couldn't find a tape measure. I just don't see how he could have cut it crooked. The board wasn't warped or anything and the saw cuts straight! Unless the blade was a square or something ..

Anyway, I used my dremel to cut it. xD I had a bit that was kind of like a saw but not so I just tried it and it worked sort of ok. ^_^

Just got back from Petsmart. The dude there was really cool about it. He didn't even ask any questions he just got me the light and was like "here you go"

So I have my light! xD (basic light.. but if I paied for it I should get it!)

When I get home (from MY store.. lol) I'll get some more pics of everything together.
