my tank is covered in algae

My tank is covered in algea abd everytime i lift a rock to scrub it off all this gunky stuff falls off of it and into the tank! I use tap water and i think that is the issue and i recently bought an
RO/DI system but I have no idea how to set it up! The person told me that the part was in yhe swamp cooler section at like Home Depot or Lowes but Home Depot didn't have anything! Before things got really bad I had a crash in oxygen levels abd lost a wrase and 2 tangs and the tank got extremly cloudy!!! Im so confused on what to do! On top if that my CUC is all dying off and my amonia is rising!!! Its now at .50. Please help cause i have know clue what to do!

How big is the tank? How much flow do you have? Have you added any new live rock?

There is dieoff somewhere. How many fish do you have? How many pounds of live rock?

Thats your problem. They basically poisoned your tank. You need to do about a 50-75% water change - NO TAP Water - to get the parameters under control, then worry about the algae.
