Need to cure rock

What do I need to cure 55lbs of Fiji rock besides power head ? How will I know when its done ?

Years back I cured some rock. I stuck it in a rubbermaid container with a lid, put a power head and a heater in it and left it in the dark for 2 months. I'd change some water every now and again cause it would smell bad from the dying stuff. When it was done it was just rock, all algae and critters (including a big crab) were dead.

You cycle it as if you were cycling a tank.

thanks ive got the rock in a 32 gallon trash can.with one power head and a heater.
