Hello I am new to the saltwater communtiy, but have had freshwater for years. I am setting up a 125 gal reef tank with a 55 gal sump filter and I was wondering what is the best type of media to use in my sump

Hi. Welcome to the forum!
I run a 125g reef and have a refugium setup for my sump. It has a skimmer in the first compartment, live rock and sand and macro algae in the middle one and the return pump chamber has chemipure in it.

I am getting a tank, and I am running my sump/box the way Carey is. The way she does it is pretty common and it works. You may want to look into running carbon, though.
