I think it's awesome! I use Petco NSW (it's actually Catalina Natural seawater from CA and they partnered with Petco to sell nationwide). My tank stabilized so quick. No nuisance algae whatsoever and multiple colors of coralline algae It was amazing and the water stayed so clear. Definitely better than mixing salt every week.

I'm sure the store stuff has been through several stages of filtration to remove any hitchhikers. I do worry about being overrun with nuisance bits and bobs, but I guess we'll see how big of an issue it's going to be.

I think you will be fine. I use natural seawater from Fl high tide incoming is best. I have to add about 60 oz of ro to a five gal bucket to cut down the salinity to 1.024 usually around1.028 when I get it.

Running it through a large UV sterilizer would address this I think...I want to say that I read a thread about a guy who only used natural water. He kept it in bins that he would UV sterilize, like Petco does, for a month or something like that.

As for the rock, you could just boil it...maybe the sand as well.

It was ok, ran it for about 3 or 4 months then got bored and took it down. The biggest issue I ran into was aiptasia.

What will be the stock list? I always dream of living on the beach and running 100' of PVC pipe to the water and pulling my water from there (in my perfect world, I would use gravity to feed my tank somehow). Install solar tubes and just use leds for night viewing

Is there a way around that? I am very interested in running a tank that way. No time in the near future of course but I think it would be really cool.

Hey. That's my dream project man. But the day I move to the beach is the day the tsunami hits.
