out of room?

what happens when you run out of space on a rock for the coral/polyps growing on it? i bough a large rock covered in polyps less than a month ago, and now there really isnt any room left on the rock for these guys to grow. are they gonna kill eachother, or move or something? what about breaking the rock into pieces (sounds dangerous to me)? the larger polyps are about silver dollar size, the smaller the size of a dime. here's a pic

I agree that they will move off the rock and colonize somewhere else. Life keep on going.
 
You will have corals growing as long as you have a healthy reef. Sometimes corals will kill others when they grow into each other.

Do research on coral propogation and ask here. It is very easy to frag polyps.
