Overflow box again

Ok i added a second u-tube to my overflow box. It ahs been running for agbout a week. Now here is my question. I woke up this morning and say some nasty slug looking stuff in the box that sits inside the tank. An d the was an oily layer on top of the water in the whole tank. Isn't this supposed to fix that? MAybe i am doing something wrong.

Do you have a protein skimmer to remove DOC's (dissolved organic compounds)? The skimmer box will pull the oily film in and direct it to the sump (where your skimmer is?). It needs relatively high flow to make it work efficiently. How big is your return pump in relation to your tank?

Is the overflow pulling water from the surface of the tank or is the surface of the water above the overflow? If the water level is to high above the intank portion of the overflow then the overflow will not perform at peak effecency when it comes to skimming off the film.

the "teeth" of the box stick out about an 1/8 of an inch above the water.

If thats the case then it sounds like the water flow is not high enough. What kind of GPH is that sen 700 putting out at the head height you have?

The pump is rated for 700gph at 3 feet of head. I have it right at three feet maybe less. So in theory it should be about 700 gph. I lookat the the box again and i noticed one of the u-tupes was only about an 1/8 on an inch off the bottom of the skimmer box. I raised it and seems to be doing a little better. But any other suggestions would be great.
