Overflow / sump questions

Does anyone have any good info on a good overflow for a 75 gallon (and what I would need to use it)?

Also, can someone point me to good DIY info for building a sump using a plastic trashcan for a newbie? I know very little about plumbing and sumps.

Thanks!
