Just wondering how you guys judge whether a tank is overstocked or not. I know many factors are involved and was wondering how I could know when to stop adding fish. How do you judge when a tank is overstocked? Opinions please feel free to post anything.

Tank size, filtration strength, amount of fish, size of the fishes in question, activity of fish, and many other criteria.

Also amount of LR, which could be thrown into filtration. Type of fish as predator fish produce more waste and things like puffers and triggers are messy eaters.

Also, are you maintaining that careful balance between livestock and spikes in the crap that builds up? For example - are you seeing nitrate/nitrite spikes? If so, its a pretty good sign that your livestock list has overgrown the filtration/bacteria of your tank.
