I have a 30G reef and recently upgraded the lighting. I bought 2*130w PC 6500K and 14000K but I think for the size of the tank, 260W would be too much.

I have decided to use 130w only but I am not sure which is better. I also have 2*20w daylight and actinic as a spare.

Which is better? I am leaning towards 6500K 130w with ?20W actinic, for the dusk/dawn effect.

I tried both and the corals were not happy. TIA

Would that even be too much lighting? That's roughly 8.5watts/gallon, and that seems like it would be good to me. I was under the impression that you needed a minimum of 4-6watts/gallon just to keep some shrooms and softies. I think using the full 260watts would be good. However, I'm not the most experienced person here, so perhaps someone else will say otherwise.

You don't need crazy lighting for shrooms. I know someone here has talked about their tank which only has several NO tubes in it, and they had great success with shrooms.
