I added a AquaC Remora PS to my tank and my PH went from 8.2 to 8.6 in a week. Besides a water change, do I need to add a PH buffer? Is the protein skimmer the cause of this sudden change in PH?

You should get a fairly accurate PH reading with this kit. Does the kit have an ALK test. A low level could cause PH swings. Also how old is the tank and do you test at the same time each day? I can't think of any reason why adding a skimmer would directly cause your PH to change.

I don't believe oxygen will raise the pH. Adding CO2 will lower the pH because it will create carbonic acid...so as CO2 is removed the pH goes back to 'normal'.

Yes, I'll 2nd that one. I've had Ph increases when my skimmer air line gets clogged and I don't notice that I've lost bubbling. Once the skimmer is reactivated, Ph quickly returns to normal. This is especially true when dripping kalk.
