phosphates in fish foods

In my never ending quest to reduce the nutrients present in my 55 gallon tank to keep the nuisance algae in check, I have made some progress. Now, I have turned my attention to the food I feed my fish. I have noticed that certain foods contain something called "ployphosphate." I found this ingredient in my staple flake food and in one of the shrimp pellet foods that I feed my goby.

Is this a true phosphate and would it be best to get rid of food containing this? I have heard there may be silicates present in certain foods as well.

Polyphosphate is a preservative used in foods to aid in maintaining freshness and color. It (trypolyphosphates) is added to many types of foods including "fresh" seafoods sold at your local grocers.

Best suggestion is presoak the foods in RO and drain away the moisture before feeding. This will greatly reduce the amounts od PO4 introduced to the tank. You can also manufacture your own foods to control what goes into your tank. I would suggest finding a seafood store that sells live foods though.
