What kind/wattage of lighting, and depth of tank?
Ours is at the bottom of the tank, but it's under a lot of light. Typically, they are mounted into a rock crevice or hole. Placement depends on the intensity of your lighting.

Mine is placed likewise but directly in the sand. It does increadibley well and fluoresces beautifully. 4x96w on a 90 gal.ReefLady said:

Mine hates my 250w MH if it is in direct line of sight with the bulb. When I had it in a location like that, it started to turn clear and lose its burgundy and green colors. Now I have it low in the tank and under a rock so that it is shaded. It colored back up and it doing great!
