I'm not quite sure how all this forum stuff works, so please be bear with me, I have a fairly new 55G SW with a few fish and some live rock. I run very basic filters. I was wondering if there is such thing as putting to much oxgen into the water?

Nope, once it is saturated, it's saturated. It will hold no more oxygen, and our goal is O2 saturation ;) Now if you mean bubbles as oxygen, then yes. Bubbles do not oxygenate the water...except when they break the surfaces. All gas exchange takes place at the air/water interface. Having good turbulence at the surface will oxygenate your water better than a bunch of bubbles.

thanks, whats going on is we have a small air stone burried in the back of the tank, it moved and now the filter is sucking up the bubbles and putting them cack in the tank. We run 2 aquaclear 300( with no carbon, just sponges) should I fix it?

I second removing the airstone... IMO they have no place in a SW Tank
