Protein Skimmer use during cycling???? Yes, No, Maybe ???

Cycling my tank and just wondering when i should plug my skimmer in???
Had it going the first day then thought about it for 2 seconds and realized it was porbably useless (or atleast i think it would be)... Just wondering when it is most beneficial/practical to begin skimming???
As always thanks for the help,
Graig

well i have not cycled mine yet, i dont plan on turning it on until near or at the end of the cycle

its to my understanding that there wont be anything for the skimmer to skim, during the cycle that is... unless you use fish to cycle the tank

BUT!! im a noob so wait to see what others say =)
and id also like to know if im wrong or not, i plan to use the shrimp method

You can run it but it may prolong your cycle by removing waste products necessary to feed the bacteria you are trying to grow.
