Guys and Gals,

I just got home and my year old Iwaki Japanese motor MD40RLT is running dry. I just turned it off and turned my emergency power heads on...

Any ideas where to start troubleshooting once I stop cursing???

Assuming you have filled the sump and stopped cussing  , and the pump still runs dry, there is something blocking the intake. You may have to remove the pump to check it out. If it's on a closed loop, then it's lost it's prime...either the water level dropped too low or there is a leak in the intake side of the plumbing.

Water level was (as far as I know) stable. I just tried plugging the pump in again an hour later and it has worked for about 18 hours...

weird.

Could have been an air bubble in the impellar assembly. Sometimes these occure and just turning them off and back on is enough to clear them.

Was the impellar spinning at all?
