It's not bad. A ton of people use it for piping.

How can I explain this....and i usally dont comment on people using pvc because its used with water movement which doesnt have as much degrading effect as standing water.. being a plastics engineer look up adverse health effects with humans and PVC and FPVC.. of if its not good for me its not good for my fish.

I've heard of it being used before in such a setup without any ill effects. It has been used under the sandbed as support and as a backbone to glue rocks together. It is the FPVC that is what you want to avoid due to the insulation or whatever is actually inside the stuff.

To my understanding PVC is inert unless there has been heat damage.

PVC is fine, but I prefer clear acrylic rods myself.... if some is showing, it doesn't stand out as much as white PVC.

That is something I would have never thought of. Where do you even get acrylic rods?

Get a bunch of plastic coat hangers and cut your own, cheap rods and strong.
