I just bought my mag 9 from Marinedepot.com and it came with the sponge. I've bought 3 different Mag pumps for my other tanks and all came with the sponge. I think it's just wrong to take it out and sell it separately.

125gal. megaflow. Fish Residents:
Yellow Tang -(Junior), Flame Angel -(Flamey)
Bicolor Blenny -(Butch), Randall Jawfish -(Jaws)
Lawnmower Blenny -(Lenny), Talbot's Damsel -(Dottie), Tomato Clown -(Ketchup)
Nameless fish include, Neon Blenny, Singapore Shrimp Goby, Yellow Tail Damsel, 1 Skunk Cleaner Shrimps, purple pseudochromis.

might be the difference between the pond version and tank version ? just a thought
