What's the difference between r/o (which I think is the same as so-called "purified water", and distilled water?

Is distilled water equally good for marine tanks...or is it sort of in between tap and r/o?

Would some type of treatment (eg, Amquel) still be needed for distilled water?

RO water is actually filtered, where distilled water is evaporated and condensed back into water.

While distilled water is much more pure than tap, it is not as pure as RO. During the distilling process there are many elements which will travel with the steam and still be in the product water. So Distilled is somewhere in between. Another problem with distilled water, is the majority of the time it is distilled using copper tubing, copper can easily end up in the product water, which is harmful to inverts.

No, there is no chlorine or chlorimine in distilled water.
