Recommendations on a very quiet water pump ?

This is my first post on this forum. I am just starting a 120 gallon fish only tank. The room it will be in doubles as a home theater, so I need to find a good pump that will run extremely quiet so you can't hear it while listening to quiet seens in movies.
I will be running this inline and I will need to move about 900 GPH to turn the tank 9 or 10 times per hour. I will have a canister filter, uv sterilizer, and inline heater that it needs to pump through as well as about 2 feet up to the bottom of tank so I figure it will need to pump about 1200 GPH after figuring in the restrictions of this equiptment. What do you think ? MIKE

When I used the "Quiet one" pumps...they were VERY quiet, but I don't know if they have one in the size you would need. You should know, even if you quiet the pump there are lots of things that make noise on a fish tank, most can be quieted, but not silenced.

I'd say, if you want a submersible pump, the Quiet One would probably be the best bet. Dolphin makes a good submersible, but having never used one, I can't say how quiet they are. If you are looking for an external pump, I'd suggest the Blueline 55HD or the Blueline 70HD. You're going to have quite a bit of resistance with all the stuff you're pumping through so I think a pressure rated pump is going to be needed to get the flow you want. Although I'm not sure if the Quiet One is pressure rated, all of the Blueline HD series are. They are about the quietest external pump that I know of. The 55HD is rated at 1000gph @4' and the 70HD is rated at 1690gph @4'. Perhaps it would be easier to use two smaller pumps with one of them set up as a closed loop for circulation only.

Unfortunately companies don't list pressure drop on their products or this could be very simple to figure out. Although you can think of it this way. For a rough estimate on the pump capability, look at the output of the pump at an increased depth, or head pressure. I know I saw some charts with flowrates for tons of different pumps somewhere. Once you derate all of the pumps, you should just be able to pick from there.

If consequence dictate my course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught.....

Thanks Kevin, Logan, and Jim
I will be running the pump external. I have also read about Custom Sea Life Velocity Silent pumps. Does anyone have any experience with these as to how quiet or how hot they run ? MIKE
