my opinion is if it's cheap, it should be ok to use occasionaly, but don't expect miracles. most of the time these things just foul up the water prematurely. A few fish swimming around eating and pooping will supply enough food for the corals. The percentage of reef keepers with starving corals is next to nothing. More so you hear about algae problems and elevated nitrates than starving corals.
IMO, a product that helps with these would be a better seller.
