I have a 90 gal reef and I just put a dual 250 watt metal halides on it, I also have 2 compact flor. with 50/50 bulbs in them....how long should the metal halides run for...can they run too long?...right now they are on about 10 to 11 hours, and the corals and inverts seem ok with it. but i'm affraid it is to long.

How long have you had the tank? I would slowly bring the lighting up to 10 hours a day (4 hrs. the first day, 5 hours the second, etc.). But it's probably too late for that since you already have had them on for a couple days or more. I'd put them on for 10 hrs. That should be fine.

I bought my live rock from Tampa Bay slat water...it is AWSOME.
One rock has a large brain coral on it...how close to the surface should braon coral be?? (how close to the MH is to close) they are 250 watt MH
