Refugium

I Have been doing some research and I decided I want to get a hang on the back refugium, right now I have a standard hang on back filter and I was wondering if the refugium filters the water so I won't need the filter still or will I still need the filter

I personally don't run sponges or any mechanical filtration on my tank. I don't think it's necessary and really just speeds up the break down of decaying organic matter if not cleaned daily. I would also look into getting a protein skimmer to aid the filtration.

What kind of hob refugium should I get

You could actually mod the filter you have into a refugium if it's big enough.

It's not very big so il just buy one
