I have heard that after a reptile has been kept in a aquarium it may never be able to be used for fish again Is there any truth to this and if there is why would it not be suitable for fish?

This is not true. There are things about reptiles that may affect the tank's seal (like the heat lamps, things scratching/chewing the silicone, etc.) but in general it is not inherently a no go. It is not riskier than any used aquarium.

Some reptile tanks use thinner glass since they are not meant to hold water. Obviously these tanks cannot be used for fish.
