salifert PO4 test kit

in short im getting absolutely no reading. have others experienced this with salifert's PO4 kit?
also is there a way to test the test? in other words where can i find some phosphate in the house?

add a piece of carbon or some frozen brine shrimp and look for a color trail from it.

tried carbon (cheap stuff to boot) still no color trace. i think the test is bad. any suggestions?

return the kit for a new one, write down the lot number of the reagents and make sure it isn't the same.

it wasnt the test it was me
i added more carbon carbon a second time and got a reading. so then i filled a second tube with water only to use as a bench mark. and well you know its working.
