I'm having trouble with sand getting in my pumps and especially my filter and causing the motor to stop, I'm afraid this is going to burn out the motor. I tried using a coarse sponge in the intake, but it seemed to be putting too much stress on the pump. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Could also be abiotic precip (whitish film). A vinegar/water solution would help with that.

Cheers
Steve

It seems to be sand grains in the mechanism, I can take it apart to clean it but it seems to have to be cleaned everyday.

what type of pump? If it is in your fuge, try adding baffles to help the sand settle out. If the tank ic cycling, wait a while till the bacteria colonizes on the sand and yu should get less sand in the pump
