Sand in refugium?

If I am creating a refuge for copepods do I need sand in it or is just LR okay? The bare bottom would be easier to clean when necessary.

Just rock would be fine.

Bare bottom unless it's a really BIG fuge (100 gal???) so you could put in a remote DSB (deep sand bed).

I have miracle mud covered by a layer of sand in mine. If I had to do it all over I would skip the mud. I like the sand in my fuge. But you really dont have to have it.
